What is optimal climate policy in an environment with inequality? In "Unequal Climate Policy in an Unequal World," with Elisa Belfiori and Daniel Carroll, we develop a heterogeneous-agent, climate-macro model and show that constrained efficient policies involve a progressive carbon tax. When the carbon tax is restricted to be uniform, the constrained optimal carbon tax is lower than that obtained in a representative agent framework. We also study the climate and welfare consequences of these policies in a calibrated model.
